The YQR International Airport will be adding a brand new Air Canada flight later this year.
President and CEO James Bogusz says Regina will now have a direct flight to Montreal through Air Canada.
“Much like service used to be available for Ottawa, this will what we call a ‘triangle route,’ which means when you return back to Regina from Montreal, you’ll go through Saskatoon,” Bogusz said.
Bogusz says this could lead to a big rebound for the airport.
“For it to happen obviously hopefully coming out of a pandemic, we’ve been marketing this route to Air Canada for two-and-a-half years, and we’re just thrilled to see them do it this year.”
Bogusz says this, along with added capacity in direct flights to Calgary, Vancouver and Toronto, makes for a positive news day for the YQR International Airport.
While still unsure of exactly what WestJet will be scheduling for the peak summer travel season between June and September, Bogusz says the airport could see more than 10 flights in a day over the summer. While that’s a far cry from what YQR International would see pre-COVID-19, Bogusz says it’s a good start.
