The video is disturbing. Three Regina youth are seen swarming another young person. Kicking and punching the victim, while one person records the onslaught and encourages the attackers to take the victim’s cell phone.
The assault occurred just outside the gates of the Queen City Exhibition. Onlookers can be seen watching the scene unfold. Groups of kids laughing, and yelling words of encouragement at the attackers. No one intervenes, no one tries to help the victim.
Three Regina youth have been implicated in the robbery – with two girls ages 12 and 13 now facing charges.
The third assailant will not be charged due to their age – they are only 11.
None of the accused can be named due to the youth criminal justice act.
The violent encounter was posted to social media, and has been viewed 54,000 times, garnering 48 “likes” and 58 shares.
This week the Regina City Police released a report looking back at calls needing police intervention during the QCX, noting a relatively peaceful event.
Despite the low number of incidents during the exhibition, one other assault did occur with the assailant using a knife on a victim.
That second violent altercation was also filmed by bystanders – and posted to social media.
