Saskatchewan was the hot spot in Canada for a few hours yesterday as a big ridge of high pressure settled in.

Eight communities set unofficial record highs, including 38.7 degrees in Maple Creek, breaking a record of 36.1 set in 1944, and Leader, whose 38.5 high temp eclipsed the old record of 38.3 set in 1929.

The other record breakers were Assiniboia (38.3) breaking a record set in 2007 (37.9), Buffalo Narrows (29.6) breaking a 2010 record (29.4), Cypress Hills (34.8) breaking a 1929 record (32.2) and Eastend (36.3), hotter than the old record of 35.6 from 1929.

Also, Kindersley (36.1) topped their previous mark of 33.3 set in  1944 and Lucky Lake (38.5) edged their mark of 38.3 in 1978.
