No significant flooding expected in Sask during spring runoff

The Saskatchewan spring run-off forecast does not anticipate any flood related issues this year.

Patrick Boyle with the Water Security Agency says there is a wide variation in water run-off potential across the southern grainbelt, ranging from below to above normal runoff.

Boyle says much of the southwestern grainbelt will have below normal runoff but central and eastern grainbelt regions will be above normal.

Boyle says there may be irrigation water supply issues in the Bigstick Lake Basin near Maple Creek for the third year in a row.

Although Boyle doesn’t expect any flooding during runoff, he says a spring storm and the timing of spring melt can change the outlook.
