Government appoints three administrators for independent schools

A trio of administrators have been appointed by the province to oversee operations at Legacy Christian Academy, Grace Christian School and Regent Christian Academy.
The three are all former superintendents or division directors, the government said in a media release.
Mike Walters will oversee Legacy Christian Academy, Dave Derksen at Grace Christian School and Randy Fox at Regent Christian Academy.
The administrators will focus on student safety and wellbeing and provide a positive learning environment for students.

“They will review staff lists and determine if the appropriate staff will continue to provide teaching and other services within the schools, to ensure there is strong communication with parents, and to provide leadership to the school staff,” a media release from the province said. “They will also be reviewing the school policies and procedures, as well as reviewing historical documentation in order to make recommendations for any changes that might be appropriate or necessary.”

The release goes on to say that in addition to ongoing communication, they will provide formal reports to the Ministry of Education at least monthly to ensure the schools are teaching Saskatchewan curricula.

Dozens of students had reported physical, emotional and sexual abuse at the school that is now called Legacy Christian.
