The Saskatoon Police service has announced Dawn Walker is facing charges on both sides of the border, after it appears she staged her own disappearance.

Walker was found Friday in Oregon with her seven-year-old son Vinnie after an interagency and cross border investigation. She’d been reported missing on July 24th and her truck was found abandoned the next morning in Chief Whitecap Park.

Walker and her son were located by the US Department of Homeland Security.  She had apparently crossed into the US illegally, apparently using false documentation.

In Canada she is facing charged of mischief and parental abduction.

A showing of solidarity is  being put forward for a Saskatoon mother and her son after they were found alive and well in the United States.

A legal defense fund for Walker, who is an accomplished author, educator, and the CEO of the FSIN, has been set up by indigenous activism group Idle No More. The Gofundme campaign has raised just over $13,000.

A rally was held Sunday evening in Saskatoon’s Kiwanis Park to show support for Dawn Dumont Walker.

Rally organizers say that it is their position that a broken legal system, justice system, policing system, and social system, on top of broken treaties and genocidal policies of colonialism and destruction and privilege which have benefitted many at the cost of many others, are what is at play here.”
