The Water Security Agency is providing up to one million dollars in new funding for channel clearing and maintenance for constructed agricultural drainage projects.

The funds are available for local governments, including RM’s, Conservation and Development Area authorities and Watershed Associations.

The expanded eligibility includes maintenance for constructed drainage projects.

Previously, only natural watercourses qualified for funding.

Water Security agency minister Jeremy Cockrill says advancing channel clearing and drainage maintenance projects can help landowners better protect infrastructure.

Assistance will come as a rebate of up to 50 percent of eligible costs for the coming year.

Activities can include removing silt, beaver dams and debris, to lessen the possibility of blockage that can cause flooding to roads and farm land.
