Pride power on display during parade

The streets of Regina were buzzing with excitement on Saturday.

Along with the Riders win to kick off their 2022 season, the Pride Parade took center stage in Regina. The streets were filled with spectators as community groups marched together in spirit.

Dan Shier, Co-Chair of Queen City Pride said Saturday’s parade was a huge success. “So many people out, just really reenergizing , reinvigorating to see everyone back out and to take over Albert Street for a bit of the day.”

There were 85 floats that took part in the parade with a wide range of representation from the community. Shier was excited to see a wide range of groups take part in the parade. “This year being able to open up registration back up to all groups, organizations and businesses that wanted to support the community.”

Another reason for the excitement of Saturday’s parade was the welcomed return of a event that has faced COVID-19 restrictions.

Shier believes that the amount of floats in the 2022 will be closed to their 2019 numbers.

With Pride Week wrapping up in Regina after days of awareness and activities, Shier says it is important to recognize pride throughout the entire year. “I think it’s really important whether it’s Pride Week, Pride Weekend,  Pride Month, it’s also important to always be mindful of the need for fighting for equity and inclusion every single day.”
