Despite soaring gas prices, and inflation eating away at more income, the Sask Party Government isn’t going to do anything to ease the pain.

Some provinces have taken steps to try and ease the economic impact, but Premier Scott Moe isn’t joining in just yet.

When asked about calls from producers and small towns to help, the premier’s office says they will look at how revenue comes in through the start of the fiscal year, before deciding what steps to take, if any.

“as we find our way through this fiscal year, if we do find our way to a surplus, we are looking at how can we return these dollars so that it would benefit all Saskatchewan people.”

Nova Scotia is looking at what measures it can take to help.  BC already sent rebate cheques out to drivers.  Ontario and Alberta have passed legislation to reduce gas taxes temporarily.

Gas prices crossed the 2 dollars a litre threshold in Saskatchewan this week.  The main issue is lack of supply, as OPEC is increasing production over the next few months, which should help level the cost out.  The end of the pandemic, high demand, and the war in Ukraine are all contributing to the record prices we are seeing at the pump.
