Riverhurst Ferry still unable to cross South Sask River

The Riverhurst Ferry that takes vehicles from one side of the South Saskatchewan River to the other has been grounded due to the profile of the shore.
Sandy sediment collected on the shoreline has been a problem keeping the ferry active. The ferry would normally carry about 30,000 vehicles per year.
A spokesman with the department of highways said crews have been trying to dredge out near the shoreline with little success. He said the ministry continues to monitor water levels and once they are deemed high enough, the Riverhurst Ferry will be able to resume operations.
In the meantime, water levels have risen in the Estuary and Lancer ferries in Southwestern Saskatchewan to reopen to light loads.
