CFL and Players Cut a Deal

The second strike in the long history of the Canadian Football League has been a short one.

Just like the first one 48 years ago, the two sides have been able to work out a deal before the season starts.

The Canadian Football League has confirmed earlier reports, that it has reached a tentative agreement with the players association.

The two sides reached a deal Wednesday night.

There are few details about the agreement at this point, except that the deal is seven years long.  There are numerous reports during negotiations that team owners and the league were hoping to get the players to agree to a ten year deal.

So clearly, there has been some compromise on some issues.

The deal isn’t official until both the league and players association have a chance to ratify it, however it looks like players will be reporting to practice/training camp as soon as Thursday.

At this point, its expected the pre season game Monday between the Roughriders and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Mosaic Stadium will be going ahead.

**UPDATE** At this point the CFL has not announced if Monday’s game at Mosaic is going ahead.  A decision on that is expected today.
