Hockey legend Guy LaFleur has died from cancer, at the age of 70.
LaFleur was a smooth skating prolific scorer who is still in the Montreal Canadiens record book leading the franchise in points, and assists.
Lafleur was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2019, and despite treatment, he was told in October 2020 that the cancer was back.
It took the talented LaFleur three seasons to find his footing in the NHL, with the 1974-1975 season described as the year he really emerged as a superstar in the NHL. He was the first player to score 50 goals, and 100 points for six consecutive seasons. He was the cornerstone of the Montreal Canadiens Stanley Cup teams of the 70’s.
In 2017, he was on the list of the 100 greatest hockey players of all time.
As you can imagine, there has been an outpouring of grief for a person who inspired a generation of hockey players in Quebec, and across the country.
