Shovels and patience are going to be needed on Friday morning as Regina along with the majority part of the province experienced a heavy snowfall that began on Thursday and carried over into the early hours of Friday.

David Baggaley from Environment Canada reported about 8 cm of snow accumulated around the Regina area as of early Friday morning, he added the area would likely see an additional 2 cm of snow throughout the day, but added the snow would be lighter during the day than the snowfall that occurred during the overnight.

The weather front will slowly make its way out of the province on Friday, Baggaley says there will be some snowfall activity in some sections of the province. “As it moves northeastward, it’s also weakening, so areas more to the central areas of the province probably won’t see quite as the southern bits.”

The snowfall warning remains in effect for the beginning of Friday morning, but will likely lifted for the Regina area at some point later today.

Baggaley noted highway conditions will be less than ideal for the Regina during the Friday morning hours, including west on Highway #1 and  northwest of Regina on Highway #11.

The Saskatoon and Battlefords area could see 10-15 cm of snow on Friday.

The Highway Hotline is reporting travel not recommended advisories for several highways around the Regina area early Friday morning.

Sections of Highway #11 between Regina and south of Davidson, Highway #1 west of Regina to Moose Jaw, Highway #6 south of Regina, Highway #39 southeast of Moose Jaw, Highway #2 around the Assiniboia area have all been issued travel not recommended advisories on Friday morning.
