One man charged with arson after weekend fire

The Regina Police Service has charged a 33-year-old with arson after a fire over the weekend.

Police were dispatched to assist Regina Fire and Protective Services to fire on Saturday at the 3700 block of Dewdney Avenue, where the basement was on fire, and a physically challenged male could not get out.

Regina Fire and Protective Services were able to assist everyone in escaping unharmed.

Police learned from witnesses that the fire had been set by a male who fled southbound towards the stadium. He was then located in the surrounding area, and he was arrested without incident.

Thirty-three-year-old Troy Whitehawk, of Regina, is facing one charge of Arson with Disregard for Human Life.

Whitehawk will make his first court appearance on this charge in Provincial Court on February 28.
