In the north west corner of Saskatchewan, voters are heading to the polls to pick a new MLA.
This by-election in Athabasca became necessary after former MLA Buckley Belanger stepped down to run for the Liberal Party of Canada in the last federal election.
The candidates are Clint Arnason, Buffalo Party of Saskatchewan. Georgina Jolibois, former Liberal MP, now running under the colours of the NDP.
Jim Lemaigre is representing the Sask Party, and Darwin Roy is running as an independent.
In the last general election, just over 3,000 ballots were cast. Advance and mail in voting so far has brought in 933 votes.
Polls are open until 9 p.m.
