APAS president Todd Lewis says the 2021 drought created a major challenge for many farmers in Saskatchewan.

Lewis says this year’s drought was the worst since 1988 with wheat production down close to 40 percent.

Lewis says the support from the provincial and the federal governments avoided a large-scale sell-off of the cattle herd due to drought.

He says one bright spot was the rising price of grain for farmers who had some crop to sell.

But he adds higher costs for fertilizer and other inputs are also a concern.

Lewis says lack of soil moisture going into 2022 remains the biggest farm concern in Saskatchewan.
