Premier hopeful to not implement restrictions

The provincial NDP Government called on the Sask. Party to implement proactive measures to stop a possible major outbreak of the Omicron variant in the province.

Premier Scott Moe said they don’t have any plans to implement restrictions on gathering limits at this time

“Some people are wondering are Government has not enacted some additional health measures like we are seeing in many other provinces. I can say we are tracking the situation very closely, and we have not ruled out some additional measures around large gatherings sizes potentially being introduced in the next week,” he stated. ”

He said that with hospitalizations dropping, he feels imposing restrictions is something that doesn’t have to be done.

“Even with new cases on the rise, COVID-related hospitalizations continue to drop and are now at their lowest level since August, so this is a challenging situation,” Moe said. “Case counts are definitely rising, and they will continue to rise in the days ahead, however, if serious cases and hospitalizations remain low and manageable, we do not want to go back to shutting down activities restricting businesses in our communities and taking away your personal freedoms.”

The Government is saying that there are a number of tools available to Saskatchewan residents to ensure they are able to safely gather including widespread access to free rapid tests as well as the expansion of the booster dose program to all those 18+. They are encouraging residents to take advantage of these tools as we work together to limit the impact of COVID-19 in our communities.
