The province is reporting 68 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday.

The new cases are located in the Far North West (1), Far North East (6), North West (6), North Central (8), Saskatoon (15), Central West (1), Central East (5), Regina (7), South Central (4), South East (11), and four (4) new cases have pending residence information.  Just over one-quarter (26.5%) of new cases are in the age category of 20 to 39.

The active case count now sits at 722 with the seven-day daily average at 63.

130 people are in hospital including 33 in the ICU.  Four people are still being cared for out-of-province and are not included in this total.

Over 3,900 vaccines were put in the arms of Saskatchewan residents with 2,849 being first doses.

The news comes at the same time that doctors in the province have been told about a likely fifth wave striking Canada due to the Omicron variant.

At a town hall meeting Thursday, Medical Health Officer Dr. Johnmark Opondo told attendees that while new cases have eased up, Saskatchewan is still in a pandemic phase and that because of the unknowns surrounding the Omicron variant that we are in a phase of “enhanced surveillance.”
