Co-op refinery laying off 54 employees

The Co-op Refinery Complex will be moving forward with 54 layoffs this year.

In a news release, Federated Co-op says the layoffs will follow the exercise of employees’ bumping rights, which is an internal union process based on seniority and qualifications. FCL anticipates the layoff process will be completed within six months.

Vice President of Refinery Operations Gil Le Dressay says FCL attempted to limit the number of people impacted by the workforce reduction, but the company is not immune from industry challenges.

The Co-op refinery employs roughly 1,000 people.
