Regina City Council discussing snow clearing bylaw at Wednesday meeting

Regina City Council meets Wednesday, and one thing they’ll be discussing is a residential snow clearing bylaw.

That bylaw would call for all homeowners to clear their sidewalks within 48 hours of a snowfall.

It’s an issue that has been on council’s plate for years.

This is an amendment to a current bylaw and it would add Regina to other cities like Saskatoon, Edmonton and Calgary that have a similar bylaw in place.

If the amendment is voted on by council, it will take effect January 1, 2022.

Council will also see a report that shows the cost of revitalizing 11th Avenue in downtown Regina to now be one million dollars.

The report says an additional $250,000 is needed to transform the area from what is now, to one that includes an improved pedestrian-oriented environment, transit realignments for better downtown movement and accessibility and infrastructure improvements that align with current design standards.
