SaskEnergy says it will be running a controlled natural gas flare for three days beginning Tuesday near Lumsden. The gas flare will go from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from July 6 to July 8.

The process will see natural gas be released from the gas line in a controlled burn with the section of gas line being isolated from the remainder of the system. This means residents and drivers in the surrounding area may see a large 40-to-60-foot flare being emitted from the flare stack temporarily.

SaskEnergy adds the flare will be supervised to ensure public safety. Municipalities and the local fire department have been notified of the event.

According to the Crown corporation, the flare is necessary to perform maintenance work on the natural gas line system in the area.

Natural gas service to the area will not be affected during this process.
