Trade and Skills Apprenticeship Students recognized for their work with Habitat for Humanity

Regina’s Trades and Skills Construction Apprenticeship Program saw its students be recognized for their work throughout the school year at a ceremony this past week.

Jacob Fluter, a student at LeBoldus High School in Regina who participated in the program, says it was important for him to get experience because he wants to become a general contractor when he graduates.

“Just being outside and working in the industry I want to work in when I’m older, while getting high school credits is awesome,” said Fluter. “Just getting the experience is the best part about it.”

Fluter says there are a variety of new skills he acquired because of this experience.

“First semester, we did most of the rough construction, so we set the trusses, and we put the sheeting on the floor, then we marked up the walls, trimmed the walls, stood the walls, and sheeted the walls,” said Fluter.

Students gained experience by helping build homes on the Habitat for Humanity Saskatchewan Haultain Crossing site in Regina.
