It’s officially tick season in Saskatchewan.

The provincial government wants to remind residents that watching for ticks both on people and pets is important after heading out to areas where the pest is common.

Most ticks found in Saskatchewan are the American dog tick. This species is active from mid-April to the end of July and cannot transmit Lyme disease to people.
Blacklegged ticks, which can cause Lyme disease, are rare in Saskatchewan and usually get here after attaching to birds that have migrated from other regions.

Saskatchewanians can submit photographs of ticks found on humans or animals using the eTick online system.
