While many were looking for the province to add Moose Jaw to the same list of tighter health restrictions that Regina is under this week, Premier Scott Moe felt there was no need to do so at this time, saying COVID-19 numbers in that city are not the same as they were in Regina when additional restrictions were made.

That being said, the province’s chief medical health officer is keeping a close eye on what is happening in Moose Jaw. Dr. Saqib Shahab says people there should be doing what is being done in Regina.

“Minimize your contacts, order take-out and curbside pickup, be cautious about indoor gatherings and household bubbles.” Shahab said. “Moose Jaw is on red alert and this has to be watched very closely,” he added.

Both Moe and Shahab did not rule out that tighter restrictions may end up coming, but Moe says at this time stricter rules are not the goal. He has faith that people in the city of Moose Jaw can stay safe by being diligent with the measures they are currently under.

“We are doing everything we can to keep people safe.” Moe said. “I have faith in the people of this province and I have faith in the people of Moose Jaw.”

On Wednesday, there were 18 new cases of COVID-19 in the Moose Jaw area, with ten new variants of concern being confirmed.
