I’m going to court… over a parking ticket! Back in the summer I was given a parking ticket for parking in a metered stall where the meter showed the time was expired. The thing is, my meter wasn’t expired. The ticket was written at 10:29am and I could see on my PayByPhone app that I was plugged until 10:30am. I sent a request into the city to have them review my ticket, I even said I would send a screenshot of my PayByPhone app to prove I had plugged the meter. They responded saying that the ticket was justified. It wasn’t, and that’s why I’m going to court!
Yesterday was my first court appearance. During this appearance all you do is say whether you want to plead guilty or not guilty. I of course plead not guilty, and after doing so they set another court date for me which is March 14th! During this court appearance is when I will do my best Harvey Specter and argue why I should not have received the ticket. Leading up to March 14th I was told by the judge yesterday that I should familiarize myself with the City of Regina’s parking bylaw, and I should also request pay work regarding my ticket from the city so I can review it. I’ve submitted that request, however I still need to look over the parking bylaw!! I plan on going in very prepared, I want to win this thing! The little guy needs a victory every once in a while!!
I will report back after March 14th to let you know how I do in court!
On a side note, I learned yesterday that if you want to volunteer at John Howard Society to pay down a ticket you can do that! Not sure all the details but something to look into if you don’t want to pay money, and you would rather volunteer!
