Alberta To Ban Cellphones In Classrooms

The Alberta Government is banning the use of mobile phones during class time in elementary and high schools as of the fall 2024 term but school boards will have some autonomy over the restrictions.

All personal devices for students between K and Grade 12 will need to be turned off and out of sight during class time. Students will only be permitted to use the devices during their school breaks.

However, there WILL be exceptions made for students who use mobile devices for health and medical needs.

Up until now, Alberta school’s have set their own policies on how students use cellphones in schools.

The province is following the lead of Quebec, Ontario and B.C., where governments have already announced or even implemented cellphone restrictions in their schools.

Will Saskatchewan follow suit?
