New Housing Initiative to Bring Homes to the Peepeekisis Nation

In a collaborative effort, the Peepeekisis First Nation has joined forces with Steel River Group to embark on a project aimed at constructing nine new affordable houses within the reserve.

The primary focus of this initiative is to prioritize the most vulnerable members of the community, ensuring their well-being and support. Among the upcoming housing units, one will be exclusively reserved for the elders, while the remaining eight houses will cater to families. A pivotal aspect of this endeavor is the creation of secure and nurturing environments for the 39 children within the community.

“Like many indigenous peoples, Peepeekisis Cree Nation has faced historical barriers in supplying affordable housing to our members, “said Chief Francis Dieter, of the Peepeekisis Cree Nation. “While these nine homes are but a fraction of our true needs, they will be transformative for some of our most vulnerable.”

A noteworthy approach to this project is the inclusion of contractors and skilled individuals from the nation itself, contributing to the sense of ownership and empowerment. The construction work will be carried out by these capable hands, infusing the project with a strong connection to the community. A community project by the people of the nation for the people of the first nation.

The Steel River Group Ltd, is an indigenous owned development and management company.

The Peepeekisis nation is situated on Treaty 4 land northeast of Regina,
