It was hot over the weekend, but it’ll be even hotter today and tomorrow here in the Queen City.
A big ridge of high pressure is pumping heat into southern Saskatchewan.
“Right now there’s an upper ridge sitting over a lot of the southern prairies, generally causing pretty clear skies and really warm temperatures,” Meteorologist Samantha Moutie of Environment and Climate Change Canada explained. “There is a heat warning out right now for the Regina area, and for the next couple of days, we’re looking at temperatures forecasted into the low 30s.”
There is some immediate relief on the horizon.
“Beginning Tuesday, we have this cold front that’s moving across the province, starting to bring some slightly cooler temperatures,” she said. “So it looks like Wednesday afternoon is when you start to get out of the 30 degree temperatures but still quite warm.”
Saskatchewan people are dealing with extreme heat, but SaskPower is offering tips on making sure your power bill is less extreme.
Cooling homes represents a major part of people’s summer power bills. SaskPower says only cool homes when needed, as for every degree air conditioning is lowered, customers could save 2 per cent on power bills.
They also suggest closing blinds and windows during the day to keep the heat out and make sure doors and windows are closed tightly.
