City Votes For Tax Exemption for Regina International Airport

Its been a tough few years for the Regina Airport.

The pandemic brought air travel to a crawl, and Regina has lost some direct access routes to the United States as well as other Canadian destinations.

City Council has decided to help, by approving a five year tax exemption for the airport.  It works out to just over $311,000 a year over five years, for a total of 1.55 million.

This week, the Sask Party government announced it would guarantee revenue to WestJet to continue flying direct flights between Minneapolis, Minnesota.  That subsidy is expected to run for three years at a cost of 2.2 million dollars.  There were many questions about why a similar deal wasn’t set up for Regina.
