With the opening ceremonies approaching for the 2023 Saskatchewan Winter Games, the call for volunteers is underway.
The Games Host Organizing Committee officially launched its volunteer recruitment campaign.
The Games, which are being held in the Queen City from February 19 to 25, will require the assistance of more than 1,000 local volunteers throughout the week-long event.
Volunteer roles include greeting participants, helping to feed athletes at the Athletes’ Village, scorekeeping at events, assisting with medical needs, and more.
There are roles for all ages, abilities, and accessibilities, including opportunities for youth aged 13-17 to volunteer.
Chairperson Valerie Sluth said they are thrilled to launch their recruitment campaign.
“Volunteers have been an integral part of the past 50 years of these Games and will be vital to the success of our Games in Regina,” said Chairperson Valerie Sluth. “Regina, I encourage you to participate in the Games by signing up to volunteer. You would be playing a part in bringing to life a sporting event for Saskatchewan’s brightest young athletes. These events create memories that last a lifetime and prepare these athletes to be leaders in the future.”
Volunteers are being asked to commit to volunteering 12-16 hours (three or four shifts of four hours in length).
There is also a $20 commitment registration fee, and all volunteers 17 years and older will be required to submit a Criminal Record Check with some roles will also need a Vulnerable Sector Check.
Youth volunteers who are 13-14 years of age will require parental consent and a parent or guardian as a chaperone, with volunteers aged 15-17 requiring parental consent.
