Saskatchewan Liberal Leader, Jeff Walters is putting his name in the running for the upcoming Saskatoon Meewasin by-election.
The announcement was made outside the St. Anne Elementary school, a familiar place for the Liberal Party Leader, as Walters attended the school in his youth. He says Meewasin is ground zero of his childhood, it’s where he spent the first 20 years of his life.
Walters spoke about the struggles that he has heard from some residents living in the Saskatoon Meewasin riding. He continued to also drive home the party’s message that the current government lacks accountability and integrity.
Walters believes that this by-election is an opportunity to show the positive impacts of the new Liberal leadership in the province.
“When it comes to myself and my party, we are not stocking ideological prisons, are mantra always is the greatest good for the greatest number of people. That’s what we stand for,” says Jeff Walters.
A date for the Saskatoon Meewasin by-election has not been set. The seat became vacant with the resignation of former NDP leader Ryan Meili.
Of the major parties to make announcements, Walters will face Nathaniel Teed representing the NDP and Kim Groff for the Saskatchewan Party.
