The Regina Police Service has had a relatively quiet Queen City Ex this year.
Elizabeth Popowich, media relations with the RPS, said there were a couple of fights, three charges of assauly and a handful of intoxicated persons in the first couple of days.
“We’ve had relatively few incidents that needed police attention, and we’re grateful for that,” she said. “It’s usually a combination of things. Co-operation from the public. Working with the REAL District team at the site. And we’ve got good police presence at the grounds.”

As of Friday, RPS dealt with three assaults, a couple of consensual fights (no injuries), a handful of intoxicated persons and people ejected from the grounds for disorderly behaviour.

A release from the Regina Police Service said that it’s an important reminder that the REAL District is operated by REAL.

“As operator of the entire event complex, REAL sets the rules about what visitors can bring onto the grounds and how they should behave. Disorderly conduct, including intoxication, can get you ejected from the grounds,” the RPS release said. “All criminal matters will be dealt with by the Regina Police Service, working in conjunction with REAL District Security.”

Popowich said they are expecting a lot of people over the weekend.

“We know that it will be busier, but at the same time, more people doesn’t necessarily have to lead to something undesirable,” Popowich said. “Everyone will be there with the intention of having a good time. Anyone who shows up with the wrong intention, well we hope that’s where some of the security measures will kick in.”
