For some -the love affair is muscle cars. For other’s dusty sports memorabilia from a bygone era worn by players no one really cares about anymore.

For other’s – it’s the timeless combination of popular culture, and creativity that is the world of Lego.

Lego is a cultural phenom fueled by it’s open ended creativity, and fun.

The bricks have been in existence since 1932 – on the cusp of marking the 90th anniversary of the toy.

There are said to be over 400 billion Lego bricks on the planet with a good chunk of them on display in Moose Jaw this weekend for the annual Brickspo at the Western Development Museum.

Adam Dodge is the coordinator of Brickspo – and shares a life long love affair with the bricks. He’s been collecting the bricks and has gathered close to 400, 000 of his own.

“Lego is timeless – there’s not much you can’t make with the bricks. It’s easy to create anything you want to make.”

With a huge amount of new sets hitting shelves all the time there is virtually no fandom that hasn’t been touched. Dodge shared some of his favorite sets.

“The Lord of the Rings  sets from the early 2000’s are collectible, a lot of fans loved Starwars and many want to see Star Trek sets in the future.”

Dodge says Lego isn’t just for kids anymore and has a few tips for adult collectors.

“Start with sets you like, and remember if you’ve built something – it’s good. A lot of people like to compare themselves to other collectors. No matter what if you’ve built something it’s good.”

The Brickspo event runs through this long weekend, with admission covered by your ticket to the Western Development museum. Each day will feature activities, over 300 displays and daily “Bricktalk” presentations from Lego enthusiasts.
